I remember sitting in my elementary school gym – somewhere around seventh or eighth grade. I don’t recall who the speaker was, or even what the broader presentation was about, but there is one moment that has stayed with me for decades.

The speaker challenged the room “Can anyone tell me a phrase made up of ten words, where every single word has exactly two letters?”

The room went silent. Then, he gave us the answer

IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME

Just like that, a simple sentence burned itself into my memory. It has remained one of the most motivating forces in my life ever since.

To me, this phrase is the ultimate definition of empowerment. It serves as a constant reminder that, regardless of the challenges I face, I am the one who ultimately decides the outcome based on how I own and respond to the situation. It taught me to stop waiting for permission, for the right timing, or for someone else to step in and save the day. If I want it, I have to be the one to do it.

That realization has been the foundation of my journey toward intentional living. It’s a philosophy that strips away excuses and puts the power back where it belongs – in my own hands.
